TEKsystems in Louisville, KY is seeking a technical writer for a contract to hire position located southwest of town. This position requires an extensive background check.
The daily duties will include but are not limited to:
Under general supervision, works with software developers and technical analysts to: Writes, edits, and rewrites manuscript copy for reference manuals, operations manuals, user manuals, and programming manuals for software and computer operations. Produce high quality end-user documentation and procedures for a technical audience. Produce Work on all phases of information development from information gathering, research, and interviewing, to writing and editing. Documentation includes both Hardware and Software documents. Coordinates with programmers and software engineering to verify knowledge of subject in preparation for writing assignment. Produce graphics and illustrations, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts. May assist in preparation and layout of work for publication. Be able to manage competing deadlines, work with the program team to meet customer and business objectives, and ensure that the documents are delivered on time, and are complete and accurate. Be flexible and be able to adapt to changing requirements. Be responsive in communicating project status and timelines. Participate in multiple level meetings and forums to ensure rapid, quality product development. Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development. Anticipate issues and be proactive and willing to educate yourself on the product to gain a deeper understanding of the information discussed among the test engineers, design engineers and the team as a whole.
Analyzes internal or external customers' needs, and determines equipment and software requirements for solutions to problems by means of automated systems; May lead small development projects for maintenance fixes and/or system changes. Apply standard practices and also work with management to find solutions in the areas that improvements are needed. Work through established channels to get buy-in and implement change, while maintaining an awareness of industry practices and standards.

A thorough understanding of the publishing process and the ability to work with raw engineering data and develop it into end-user documentation.

Typical Minimums
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 3 years of professional experience; or 1 year of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered experienced, but still a learner.
