Job Listing: Project Engineer

-The Project Engineer assists the Project Manager and Superintendent to achieve project success and directly oversees the entire submittal/document control process.

-The Project Engineer also assists the Project Manager in jobsite communications, requisitions for payment, job meetings, the “RFI” process, scheduling, changes in the work, as well as other tasks as directed.

-The Project Engineer works cooperatively with both the Project Manager and Project Superintendent, in accordance with company standards and policy, to establish the confidence and respect of the Owner, Architect/Engineer, and the trade/subcontractors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not necessarily limited to, the following):

1. Continuing Education and Training as may be required to complete the tasks of this position or as required by the supervisor.
2. Participate in formal presentations and represent our client in new business opportunities as directed.
3. Assist the Preconstruction Manager and Project Manager in planning activities to ensure a successful start up of the project as directed.
4. Assist the Preconstruction Manager and Project Manager in preparing the Preconstruction project schedule as directed.
5. Assist the Preconstruction Manager and Project Manager in attending Scope Review Meetings and flushing out errors, omissions, and discrepancies as directed.
6. On-Site Project Execution and Supervision
7. Implements the entire submittal process consistent with the requirements of the Project Schedule. Intimate knowledge of computerized documentation control is required. The submittal process consists of, but is not necessarily limited to:
8. Attends and may at times conduct routine trade/subcontractor job meetings. Reports on the RFI and submittal process. Prepare handouts and reports as required for each meeting.
9. Maintains project records including updated as-builts, sketches and bulletins that may be received throughout the course of construction.
10. Assists in preparing the daily construction report, documenting all personal observations and verbal directions, discussions, and decisions reached with the Architect/Engineer, Owner, and trade/subcontractors. The use of computerized reporting is required.
11. Manages the RFI process to clarify discrepancies and questions concerning the plans and specifications. The use of electronic information gathering and reporting is required.
12. Assists in reviewing and signing off on the trade/subcontractors application for payment to ensure accuracy of monthly billing.
13. Assists in reviewing for merit and accuracy trade/subcontractors cost proposals and claims for additional work/compensation.
14. Assists in reviewing for accuracy and constructability shop drawings prepared by the trade/subcontractors.
15. Prepares project purchase orders for the purpose of ordering incidental material from on site as directed.
16. Tracks units of productivity in order to provide historic data to the estimating department as directed.
17. Assists in cost coding daily time sheets for our tradesmen on self-performing projects as directed.
18. Assists in scheduling all testing labs, building inspections, third-party reviews, and special testing as required by the contract documents and/or local and state law as directed.
19. Assists the Project Manager in preparing and updating the Construction Schedule. Intimate knowledge of computerized scheduling is required.
20. Attends Owner/Building Committee Meetings as required. O. Completes filing and mailing as required
21. Assists Project Manager in developing and maintaining a long-lead procurement list of material and purchasing schedule as directed.
22. Assist the Project Manager in the issuance of monthly financial reports as directed.
23. Monitors throughout the progress of the project and, at its conclusion, receives and records for distribution all close-out documents including as-built drawings, disks, CAD files, O&M Manuals, warranties, guarantees, etc.
24. Assists the Project Manager and/or Project Superintendent in both the development and administration of the project’s punchlist.


Further Requirements
The Project Engineer should have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other construction-related field. He/she should be a motivated, self-starter with a strong work ethic and construction related experience desirable. This position could be a training role for future Project Managers and Project Superintendents. Computer skills are required and shall include MS Word, MS Excel and Computer Based Project Management and Scheduling (preferably Primavera). Duties require verbal and written communications abilities, visual acuity to written and computer screen data, accuracy in reading, manual coordination and dexterity in handling items and operation of computer equipment. The Project Engineer should be able to climb ladders and stairs. The Project Engineer should be a LEED accredited professional.
