Job Listing: Product Designer

This position is responsible for preparing layouts, drawings and designs according to customer requirements and company specifications. Interprets and applies customer requirements to product engineering, process engineering and purchasing department drawings. Designs and develops various forms, signs, layouts and other drawings in support of the Product Engineering Department.

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to:
· Produces drawings with detailed specifications on hard copy, assuring that drawings adhere to Company and/or industry standard practices.
· Analyzes, designs, and confers with engineering staff to resolve details on design specifications not completely defined.
· Prepares engineering proposal drawings from rough notes and concepts by Product Engineers.
· Produces a variety of drawings (isometric & geometric) of parts, subassemblies and finished units on prototype, experimental, new and existing products.
· Develops layouts and designs incorporating tolerance, dimensions and other engineering data, using a computer.
· Interprets and translates customer terminology and dimensioning practices into Company vernacular.
· Investigates and applies specifications, military standards, Standard Practice Instruction (SPI) and Quality Control instruction (QCI) ensuring correct information is provided on each drawing.
· Works with CAD group member to devise methods and techniques to improve the group’s productivity and to ensure efficient, consistent and productive use of the CAD system.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:
A high school diploma with a two-year technical degree preferably in drafting/design, with a heavy emphasis on CAD/CAM (Solidwork/modeling & Unigraphics). A high degree of mechanical aptitude, analytical ability, detail oriented and demonstrable abilities to analyze, evaluate and conceive original approaches. 100% accuracy oriented. Four or more years experience in similar work or directly related and relevant outside experience. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
· CAD Operator/Drafter – Essentially the same duties, except breadth of tasks are more limited, simpler phases and more routine. Works under direct supervision. From zero (0) to two (2) years or relevant outside experience.
· CAD Operator/Drafter/Designer – Essentially the same duties. Breadth of tasks more varied and difficult. A higher degree of evaluation, analysis and originality required. Works under general supervision. More latitude for unreviewed decision-making. Two (2) to four (4) years experience or the equivalent in outside relevant experience.
