Job Listing: Cognos Analyst

Primary support analyst responsible for addressing and resolving incident tickets reported by a growing Cognos 8 BI application user base. Mostly on-shift support with some special projects requiring off-shift support or implementation tasks. The Cognos Analyst is responsible for server health of our Cognos 8 BI application servers, and will work with the server administration team to perform necessary application administration. Provide report development using Report Studio for Enterprise Data Mart environment, and support non-IT Report Authors in development and implementation of reports for their specific organizations. Perform some Cognos 8 BI Development in Framework Manager as requested.

Primary responsibility for Cognos 8 BI application support incidents. Address, resolve and document progress on security issues, application administration issues, application bugs and errors, system outages, how-to questions from users, and other issues as they arise. Resolve support incidents in line with defined Service Level Agreements. Interact with Cognos 8 BI users to understand support issues and provide quality customer service until each incident is resolved to the user’s satisfaction. Provide report support to business analysts for the development and implementation of user-authored reports. Develop IT Certified reports using Report Studio. Perform development in the Cognos 8 BI Framework Manager tool as requested by the BI Program Manager. Execute defined Change Management processes for the deployment of development efforts to the production application environments. Assist in some server maintenance to ensure the Cognos application is up and running with no errors. Perform installations of the Cognos 8 BI application and related components, as new servers are required for the BI environment. Work closely with other BI Team members, including Cognos Specialist, Data Architect and Oracle DBA/ETL team. Liaison to application vendor for ongoing support needs.

Required Skills

Broad understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and enterprise reporting capabilities. Experience with Cognos 8 toolset, including Framework Manager, Query Studio, and Report Studio. Good analytical and communication skills to work with a large user base for understanding application issues and providing a quality, long-term resolution. Must have demonstrated the ability to work as a member of an enterprise team. Ability to develop new reports and functionality from a technical design document and meet all documented requirements. Experience with and understanding of IT Change Management processes. The position typically requires a college or university degree or certification that is equivalent. In addition, this position requires two to four years of experience with progressively increased levels of IT experience. The ability to listen to others is an important trait for this job.
