One of largest Long Island clients is searching for a Packaging Engineer to do the following:
Summary:
Design, size and prepare specifications for all packaging components. Create templates for use by the Art and QA departments to complete their respective tasks. Evaluate all new packaging components for machine suitability and order change parts as required. Coordinates, plans, and directs activities of designated projects to achieve goals and objectives of package engineering issues/projects, within prescribe parameters and funding by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design, size and prepare specifications for all packaging components.
Create templates for use by the Art and QA departments to complete their respective tasks.
Review new drugs packaging needs to determine required primary and secondary closer systems, change parts needed to fill and package all new closures systems, machinery upgrades and new equipment.
Prepare list of all assigned products presentations with specified closer systems by specifications for various departments e.g. Planning, Art, And Purchasing.
Design secondary closures systems when needed and submit requests for specification.
Create tube, insert, label, and carton CAD templates for artwork and specification requirements that fit our Client's equipment capabilities and there marketing needs, while maintaining supplier tolerance guide. Submit and request revisions as needed.
Perform investigations of products component failure or deviations along with the Compliance and Quality Assurance Departments to resolve all issues with problem source, which may include contact/meeting with supplier or a vendor. Make closures system modifications utilizing engineering change procedures along with vendor recommendations.
Inspect measure and test primary and secondary packaging component for approvals.
Review and approve component material changes submitted by manufacture prior to internal component spec change.
Create detailed component spec when needed by QA, review and approve standard part specifications including vendor supplied dimensional drawings for final component specification approvals. Review and approve artwork for all product components in all presentations.
Prepare project studies for equipment purchases to aid Management in purchase justifications.
When needed, direct activities of team members including internal and external participants.
Resolve packaging/project issues through open discussions with internal team players and suppliers/vendors via resolute technical suggestions.
Support Manufacturing, Packaging, Art, QA, QC, R&D, Label, Warehouse and Purchasing Departments when needed.
Other duties assigned when needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Management role: hire and direct vendors, fabricators and consultants to perform specific tasks on equipment or peripherals within the facility as needed.
Qualifications:
Microsoft office suite ability
AutoCAD ability
NovaManage database system ability
Barcode Symbology ability
Education:
BS in Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
Minimum six years experience, packaging engineer
Mathematical Skills:
Mathematical ability includes standard mathematics, algebra, geometry and some calculus.
Reasoning Ability:
Decipher, anticipate and solve problems. Apply knowledge of components to the full product packaging cycle to assure production continuity.

Work Environment:
Include, all areas of facilities including office areas, production, warehousing, laboratory line and utility rooms.
