The successful candidate will be a very competent Oracle Database Administrator with at least 10 years of development and/or production support experience ideally gained in a financial institution or busy production support environment. They must be self-motivated, responsible and have the ability to multi task and prioritize under often changing and challenging workloads. They must have the ability to follow standards and procedures, but have the confidence to proactively challenge where appropriate. They must be a good team player and is willing to share information, knowledge and ideas amongst fellow SAs, DBAs and UNIX team managers. Ability to communicate and coordinate day to day work across project teams and support teams is very important. Equally as important, they must display a high level of common sense and commitment and very strong interpersonal communication skill.
ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS:
This position reports to the Oracle server support manager.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installation, administration, support, performance analysis and management of Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g server environment that comprises of OLTP, Decision support, and Data Warehouse systems.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Diploma in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Business Administration; supplemented with one or more courses and certification in current technology.
Experience:
Considerable (10 years) and current experience as a Oracle server administrator on a medium sized commercial firm or an investment banking Database environment using current technologies.
Skills:
- Installation, upgrade and maintenance of Oracle 9i, 10g servers
- Strong knowledge and experience with Oracle Recovery Manager
- Basic knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager & RAC
- Competent PL/SQL skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Experience in database monitoring, backup and recovery
- Basic UNIX Operating system knowledge
- Strong UNIX shell scripting
- Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively.
- Orientation and training of new staff
- Ability to manage multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneously
- Facilitation and change management skills
- Highly developed verbal and written communications
