HERITAGE HEALTH CARE Job Description: NURSE PRACTITIONER GENERAL DUTIES: 1. The Nurse practitioner (NP) will serve as the primary care provider to those patients assigned to him/her and will provide all appropriate initial and subsequent medical care to them. 2. The nurse practitioner will see those patients assigned to him/her by the Collaborating Physician or the Medical Director. 3. The nurse practitioner is to be free to use the services of any and all members of the staff on a consultation basis. 4. Maintains adequate records and prepares reports as indicated. 5. Preventative and Gynecological Care (Ambulatory Setting) o The Nurse Practitioner takes responsibility for the gynecological care of essentially healthy women throughout their life cycle. o Obtain patients’ history and medical intake for routine, acute, and follow up care. o Performs routine physicals and gynecological examinations. o Obtains appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests and interprets the results. o Orders, prescribes and counsels patients in the full range of contraceptives and alternatives, including emergency hormonal contraception barrier, spermicidal, diaphragm, fitting intrauterine devices. o Assist in assessment of patients requesting pregnancy termination. o Counsels and prescribes hormone replacement therapy o Diagnoses and treats sexually transmitted diseases o Perform other duties as needed.
